This collection has two separate data files, the first of which is the April 1971 Current Population Survey(CPS) augmented with DOT characteristics. In the course of its investigation of the Dictionary of Occupational Titles (DOT) and the systematic evaluation of job worth, the Committee on Occupational Classification and Analysis of the National Academy of Sciences acquired a selection of variables from the April 1971 Current Population Survey. The data come from a sample of households which yielded 60,441 workers in the Experienced Labor Force. The variables contain detailed information about the workers and their family backgrounds, education, and employment. Also included is information from the DOT for each worker as to his job classification and description. The file has 60,441 cases (workers). The second file is the Fourth Edition Dictionary of Occupational Titles (DOT) Scores for 1970 Census Categories. The Committee (see above) created a computer file of aggregate DOT characteristics for the 574 expanded occupation categories of the 1970 Census. The purpose of this project was to relate the characteristics of occupations from the DOT to the characteristics of the individuals in those occupations, gatherred from the Census and survey data.
