The papers collected in this volume are those of the seminar papers which in the Committee's judgement seemed worth putting on more permanent record for others concerned with the study of new nations and which, at the same time, formed a connected unity in which the interplay of the different social science disciplines and of specialized knowledge of different social science disciplines and of specialized knowledge of different nations, new and old, that occurs in the Committee can be seen at work.
