"Interesting and intellectually engaging scholarly essays, some already published elsewhere, that examine Sor Juana's life, times, and works which scholars consider autobiographical, in order to identify more closely her place in colonial 17th-century Mexican society and letters. Highly recommended for scholars and students of the nun's life and works, and for anyone interested in literary genres, colonial history, or women's studies"--Handbook of Latin American Studies, v. 58.
