The core of the Yale Law Library's Blackstone collection was gifted in 1907 by a private collector, the Honorable Macgrane Coxe, who had assembled it with the aid of Charles C. Soule of Boston. The collection includes the original eight editions (1765 through 1778) of Blackstone's Commentaries on the laws of England; 78 multi-volume titles of English and Irish editions, annotated editions, analytical abridgements, and Blackstone parodies; 97 multi-volume titles of American editions and French, German, and Italian translations; all of Blackstone's other miscellaneous works; and, biographical and critical works on Blackstone.
